RESOLUTION
Commending
Dr. John A. Phillips; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dr. John A. Phillips is widely recognized throughout the state as the
personification of excellence in education; and
WHEREAS,
this highly respected professional educator and administrator has served with
honor and distinction as teacher, assistant principal, principal, assistant
superintendent for instruction, associate superintendent for system operations,
and since January, 2003, he has served as Superintendent of the Muscogee County
School District in Columbus, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he earned post doctorals from the University of Georgia, Harvard Graduate School
of Education, Columbia University, the University of Southern California, Lamar
University, and Vanderbilt University; a Doctor of Philosophy degree from
Georgia State University; an Educational Specialist degree from Georgia Southern
College; a Master of Education degree from Georgia Southern College; and a
Bachelor of Science degree from St. Leo College; and
WHEREAS,
he has nearly 40 years of experience as a professional educator and has been
superintendent of schools for four different school systems, including the
Rockdale County School System in Conyers, Georgia; the Eanes Independent School
District in Austin, Texas; the Bartow County School System in Cartersville,
Georgia; and the Muscogee County School District in Columbus, Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
he is a shining example of the important impact that the efforts of individual
education professionals and school superintendents are making on the quality of
education received by the children of this state, and it is abundantly fitting
and proper that his superlative accomplishments be recognized
appropriately.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body heartily
and gratefully commend Dr. John A. Phillips for his over three decades of
sacrifice, foresight, accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of education
in Georgia and for the positive influence he has had upon the lives and futures
of countless young people in this state and extend to him their most sincere
best wishes for health and happiness in the future.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. John A. Phillips.
