RESOLUTION
Congratulating
Joanne Smalley upon her retirement; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Joanne began her career with the Georgia Archives in 1975 as a clerk at the
registration desk and was promoted to archivist a year later and ultimately to
senior archivist; and
WHEREAS,
over her 32 year career at the Georgia Archives, Joanne has witnessed the
archives´s evolution to the modern, technological organization that it has
become; and
WHEREAS,
Joanne developed a thorough knowledge of the published reference resources in
the archives library and an unmatched understanding of the current and historic
structure of Georgia´s government; and
WHEREAS,
Joanne is a skilled genealogical researcher who throughout her career has
provided assistance to Georgia citizens seeking to trace their ancestry;
and
WHEREAS,
while Joanne is originally from New York, she takes great pride in being a
naturalized Southerner, and her adopted home of Georgia is grateful for all her
contributions to maintaining its history at the Georgia Archives.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
congratulate Joanne on her retirement and thank her for all her contributions
to the Georgia Archives over her 32 year career.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Joanne Smalley.
