RESOLUTION
Requesting
the Department of Transportation to do a safety evaluation and perform necessary
repair work; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the safety of the children and citizens in our district are of the utmost
importance; and
WHEREAS,
the condition of the roadside shoulders along SR 140 and SR 20 in Cherokee
County need to be evaluated to determine the necessity for repair or
improvements; and
WHEREAS,
on Monday, March 3, 2008, there was a school bus accident on SR 140 and there is
speculation that a narrow roadside shoulder width contributed to the accident;
and
WHEREAS,
the condition of the shoulder on SR 140 is similar to the condition of the
shoulder on SR 20 in Cherokee County; and
WHEREAS,
the following members of the Senate Cherokee County legislative delegation
strongly urge the Department of Transportation to evaluate the condition of the
roadside shoulders along SR 140 and SR 20 in Cherokee County and if it is found
that repairs are warranted, that they be made as soon as possible:

NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body support
the members of the Senate Cherokee County legislative delegation in requesting
the Department of Transportation to evaluate the condition of the roadside
shoulders on SR 140 and SR 20 in Cherokee County and perform any needed repairs
in a timely manner.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Department of
Transportation.
