RESOLUTION
Honoring
Reverend Dennis Mitchell; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Reverend Dennis Mitchell has recently been selected to serve as pastor of
Greenforest Community Baptist Church after an exhaustive five-month search;
and
WHEREAS,
he was born in San Francisco and raised in El Cerrito, California, and he was
ordained into the gospel ministry in 1991 at the Emanuel Baptist church in San
Jose, California; and
WHEREAS,
for nearly 20 years he has remained steadfast in his calling to build the
kingdom of God through ministerial service, serving as a Christian educational
director at "Exciting" Singing Hills Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, a Sunday
school growth consultant wit the Baptist General Convention in Texas, as a Black
Church extension associate director with Home Mission Board of the Southern
Baptist Convention in Montgomery, Alabama, and must recently as associate pastor
and interim pastor at Greenforest; and
WHEREAS,
prior to answering the call to the ministry, he had a successful career as a
banker, holding positions ranging from local branch manager and regional sales
manager with Wells Fargo Bank to vice president of First Interstate Bank, both
in San Francisco; and
WHEREAS,
his salient spiritual gifts are encouragement, administration, and teaching, and
he is passionate about African American churches accepting the leadership role
in the gospel mandate; and
WHEREAS,
he is married to Pam Griffin, a native of Dallas and a Cobb County public school
teacher, and the couple has three daughters, Shayna, Erin, and
Andrea.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body honor and
commend Reverend Dennis W. Mitchell upon being selected to serve as pastor of
Greenforest Community Baptist Church.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend Dennis W.
Mitchell.
