A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and honoring the life of Donald (Don) G. Allen; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens with the passing of Don Allen on March 3, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Allen, born on September 22, 1956, in Jamaica, West Indies to Oswald and Albertine Allen, was the fifth of six children and the only son; and

WHEREAS, he migrated to the United States in the 1980's, working during the day and attending classes at night; and

WHEREAS, while attending college he became very involved in his home church and the church community and during the 1980's he was one of the founders of Victory Bible Fellowship Church in Miami, Florida, and was ordained as a minister in 1994; and

WHEREAS, he graduated from the College of Art, Science, and Technology with a major in business; and

WHEREAS, he also acquired an insurance license and became a successful broker, eventually opening two insurance offices; and

WHEREAS, Don married his wife, Clarietha, in 1990, and gained a step-daughter; and

WHEREAS, he founded the Georgia Employee Federation in 2001 to provide support and advocacy for employees injured on the job, the disabled, low-income workers, and those disenfranchised without a voice, and he was a stalwart defender of and advocate for human rights; and

WHEREAS, in the latter years of his life, he wrote many songs reflecting the injustice in our society, and he has left a legacy of social justice songs that will influence and impact our world; and

WHEREAS, he diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community as evidenced dramatically by his many years of superlative service; and

WHEREAS, this singular gentleman was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Mr. Donald (Don) G. Allen and commend him for a lifetime of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Donald (Don) G. Allen.
