RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and honoring the life of Mr. Herb Butler; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens with
the loss of Mr. Herb Butler; and
WHEREAS,
he was an honest and dedicated man who strived for excellence in all his
endeavors, as evidenced dramatically by his many years of superlative service as
an outstanding union organizer with the United Auto Workers Local 10, as a UAW
regional representative, and as the area director for the UAW office in Atlanta
from 1971 until his retirement in 1990; and
WHEREAS,
he was a devoted spokesperson for the cause of the workers and had a strong
reputation for defending them and negotiating contracts; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Butler spent decades traveling the East Coast, assisting with union
management negotiations, helping to resolve grievances, and acting as a
middleman between union headquarters in Detroit and the Southern unions his
office represented; and
WHEREAS,
he was a devoted family man, a dedicated member of his community, and a person
of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity,
intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and
WHEREAS,
his unparalleled organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience
and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his acute sensitivity to the needs
of the citizens of his community and state earned him the respect and admiration
of his colleagues and associates.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
and honor the life of Mr. Herb Butler and express their deepest and most sincere
condolences to his family.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Herb
Butler.
