A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and honoring the life of Ezekiel Roy Lambert; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ezekiel Roy Lambert was born on June 18, 1925, and lived in the house on North
Main Street in Madison where he was born; and
WHEREAS,
with the exception of his service in the United States Navy, serving during
World War II from 1942 through 1946, and while he was getting a college
education, his life was centered in Madison and Morgan County; and
WHEREAS,
a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he earned both a business degree
in 1947 and a law degree in 1950, and a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Law
Fraternity and Phi Delta Theta Social Fraternity, Lambert passed the bar exam in
1950 and established a law practice in Madison; and
WHEREAS,
soon after beginning his practice, a young lady in Atlanta, Christine Davis,
entered the picture, and they married in May, 1954; Mr. and Mrs. Lambert
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2004, and along the way, they were
blessed with three children: Leigh Goff, Anne Trulock, and Ezekiel Roy
“Zeke” Lambert, III; and
WHEREAS,
although Mr. Lambert's father passed away when he was a small boy, he had heard
about his father in the Georgia General Assemby, and when Senator C. R. Mason
decided not to run for reelection, Mr. Lambert decided to run for state senator
and won a close race; Mr. Lambert served from 1955 through 1956 and again in
1961 through 1962, after which he campaigned for and won a seat in the
GeorgiaHouse of Representatives and held his seat until retiring from active
politics in 1985; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Lambert earned prestigious appointments during his political career such as
chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, chairman of the powerful House Rules
Committee and the House Committee on Industry, and eight years as the Governor's
Floor Leader; and
WHEREAS,
upon retiring from politics in 1985, he became president of the Bank of Madison,
where he served for many years, most recently as vice-chairman of the bank's
Board of Directors, and
WHEREAS,
he also managed to maintain a very successful law practice, being a senior
partner of Lambert, Reitman, and Abney, LLC, the firm he started in September,
1950; and
WHEREAS,
while reflecting on his days in public life, Mr. Lambert said he was fondest of
the many initiatives and legislation that helped to bring industry and jobs to
Georgia, and his efforts did not stop there; as a private citizen, Mr. Lambert
left a mark in Morgan County economic development by helping recruit major
companies to the area; and
WHEREAS,
it is only fitting and proper that we honor the exemplary career and life of an
outstanding Georgian.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
and honor the life of Ezekiel Roy Lambert and extend their deepest sympathies to
his colleagues, friends, and family.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Ezekiel Roy
Lambert.
