A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Sartain family; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sartain are active members of the Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church in Tucker, Georgia, and they were recently named Family of the Year by the Stone Mountain Woman's Club; and

WHEREAS, they both sing in the chancel choir and serve on various committees at the church; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sartain is active with the United Methodist Men and the founder of the ten year old Music for Missions Program at the church; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Sartain is active with the United Methodist Women and serves as cheer chairman for the Woman's Club and as prayer chain chairman for the church; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Sartain is retired from Georgia State University where she was employed for 36 years and was named Alumni Director Emerita by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sartain is a former hospital chief executive officer and currently serves as a consultant to Mountain View Personal Care Home in DeKalb County; and

WHEREAS, both are active supporters of the arts and Mr. Sartain, a talented tenor soloist and trumpet player, is the founder of the DeKalb Council for the Arts; and

WHEREAS, they also support the Stone Mountain Historic Society, and Mrs. Sartain currently serves as secretary of the Friends of the Sue Kellogg Library in Stone Mountain, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, their favorite pasttime is spending time with their grandsons who live in Augusta; and

WHEREAS, their daughter Ansley was named National Young Mother of the Year by the American Mothers Association at ceremonies in Las Vegas earlier this summer, and previously she and her family had been named Family of the Year by the Augusta Woman's Club and then chosen as district winners.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize the Sartain family for the valuable services they provide to their community and this state and commend them on being named Family of the Year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Sartain family.
