A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
Law Day in the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
in 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued the proclamation that designated
May 1 as Law Day in the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, the
United States of America has been the citadel of individual liberty and a beacon
of hope and opportunity for more than 200 years to many millions who have sought
our shores; and
WHEREAS, the
foundation of individual freedom and liberty is the body of law that governs us;
and
WHEREAS, the
Constitution of the United States of America and the Bill of Rights are the
heart of that body of law, which guarantees us many freedoms, including freedom
of religious belief, freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of petition,
and due process of the law among others; and
WHEREAS,
in honor of the 50th annual nationwide observance of Law Day, the State of
Georgia joins with the rest of the nation in celebrating May 1 as a special day
for recognizing the place of law in American life.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize May 1, 2007, as Law Day in the State of Georgia and
encourage all citizens to participate in the appropriate observances
thereof.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Superior
Court Judge Tilman E. Self III.
