A RESOLUTION


Recognizing Law Day in the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, in 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued the proclamation that designated May 1 as Law Day in the United States of America; and

WHEREAS, the United States of America has been the citadel of individual liberty and a beacon of hope and opportunity for more than 200 years to many millions who have sought our shores; and

WHEREAS, the foundation of individual freedom and liberty is the body of law that governs us; and

WHEREAS, the Constitution of the United States of America and the Bill of Rights are the heart of that body of law, which guarantees us many freedoms, including freedom of religious belief, freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of petition, and due process of the law among others; and

WHEREAS, in honor of the 50th annual nationwide observance of Law Day, the State of Georgia joins with the rest of the nation in celebrating May 1 as a special day for recognizing the place of law in American life.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize May 1, 2007, as Law Day in the State of Georgia and encourage all citizens to participate in the appropriate observances thereof.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Superior Court Judge Tilman E. Self III.
