A RESOLUTION


Commending the University of Georgia Gymnastics Team on winning the 2006 NCAA National Championship; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, in 2006 the University of Georgia "Gym Dogs" Gymnastics Team won its seventh NCAA National Championship, posting an amazing 36-0 record for its fourth undefeated season in program history; and

WHEREAS, no other NCAA gymnastics team has completed an undefeated season; and

WHEREAS, 2006 also marked the team's fifteenth Southeastern Conference Championship, which is more championships than all other conference teams combined; and

WHEREAS, this outstanding team includes Freshman Courtney Kupets, a member of the 2004 U.S. Olympic team and winner of the NCAA All-Around, Balance Beam, and Uneven Bars individual national titles; Junior Kelsey Ericksen, winner of the SEC All-Around, Vault, Bars, and Floor titles; and teammates Audrey Bowers, Paige Burns, Nikki Childs, Adrienne Dishman, Megan Dowlen, Christi Fortunato, Katie Heenan, Lauren Johnson, Ashley Kupets, Courtney McCool, Marcia Newby, Lauren Sessler, Abby Stack, Grace Taylor, and Tiffany Tolnay; and

WHEREAS, the "Gym Dogs" have established and maintained a proud tradition of excellence with equal emphases on character and academics, and their phenomenal performance is a clear indication of their outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team; and the astute direction of Head Coach Suzanne Yoculan.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the University of Georgia Gymnastics Team for its unparalleled achievements and extend their sincerest best wishes for its continued success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Head Coach Suzanne Yoculan.
