A RESOLUTION


Commending Ellis Wood of Ellis Wood Contracting, Inc., and the Ellis Wood Support Team; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on March 9, 2007, a three-mile-long convoy of approximately 70 pieces of heavy equipment arrived at Americus, Georgia, to assist with the disaster relief effort following the devastating tornado of March 1, 2007; and

WHEREAS, this team of over 100 incredible volunteers, coordinated by entrepreneur Ellis Wood, labored intensely for more than 48 hours from dawn until dark from March 9 to March 11, removing debris and damaged trees from the tornado-ravaged grounds of Sumter Regional Hospital, Reese Park, Joyce Myers Park, and countless private homes; and

WHEREAS, members of the Ellis Wood team paid for their own expenses in coming to Americus, humbly accepting a sleeping space on a local gym floor and requesting little more than a single hog to cook in their company trailer, a unit equipped with a kitchen designed to feed the entire team; and

WHEREAS, the company provided countless tons of its own equipment, including several dump trucks and bulldozers, and on Saturday, March 10, 2007, the team was hauling an average of 60 loads of debris per hour; and

WHEREAS, the community of Americus and the State of Georgia owe tremendous debt of gratitude to the hard workers of Ellis Wood Contracting, Inc., including Barry Evans, Enrique Gonzalas, Jimmy Akins, Johnny Bramblett, Lee Jeffcoat, Matt Wood, Ricky Shurling, Rufus Wilson, Stan Beegle, and Wendell Lamell, and Ellis Wood Support Team members Arnold Ray Akins, Jason Akins, Harold Brannen, Alvin Brooks, Charles Chandler, Alan Davis, Jeff Davis, Michael Guido, Larry Guido, Barry Lawson, Garth Long, J.T. Long, Melvin Merrill, Dalton Partain, Barrett Street, Eddie Wood, Ted Wynn, and many others; and

WHEREAS, these fantastic volunteers had a massive impact on the relief effort, saving the community thousands of hours of labor and immeasurable financial resources.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express their profound appreciation for the outstanding philanthropy and leadership of Ellis Wood; commend the indispensable service of the volunteers of Ellis Wood Contracting, Inc., and the Ellis Wood Support Team to the Americus community and the State of Georgia; and extend to them their sincerest best wishes for a golden tomorrow.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ellis Wood Contracting, Inc.
