A
RESOLUTION
Expressing
regret at the catastrophic events in Blacksburg, Virginia; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
on April 16, 2007, the peaceful campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and
State University (Virginia Tech) was rocked by gunfire which resulted in the
tragic and untimely deaths of more than 30 innocent people and the injury of
countless others; and
WHEREAS,
these senseless shootings have shocked and horrified the nation and left the
quiet community of Blacksburg in a state of mourning as all try to find answers
to a disaster which is being called the deadliest shooting rampage in American
history; and
WHEREAS,
although there are simply no words adequate to assuage the anguish which the
untimely passing of these tragic victims has caused in the hearts and lives of
their families and friends, the thoughts, condolences, and prayers of all
Georgians go out to the victims, their families, and to Virginia Tech in the
hope that healing of hearts and spirits may somehow begin to lessen the pain of
the chaos of that terrible morning.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body express their deepest and most profound regret at the tragic and
untimely deaths and unfortunate injury of so many students and professors of the
Virginia Tech family.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Charles W.
Steger, president of Virginia Tech.
