A RESOLUTION


Honoring the memory of Virginia Thompson and expressing regret at her passing; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, news of the untimely death of Virginia Thompson on April 8, 2007, was received with deep regret by this body; and

WHEREAS, the life led by this distinguished gentlewoman rendered her name dear to the hearts of her family and many friends alike; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Thompson was a founding member of Southwest Christian Church in East Point and an active participant in the Covered Bridge Garden Club at the Mable House Arts Center in Mableton; and

WHEREAS, a 1939 graduate of Russell High School in Atlanta, where classmates named her "Most Wittiest," Mrs. Thompson earned a secretarial degree from Atlanta Business College before marrying her husband in 1943; and

WHEREAS, with unfailing support and compassion, she cared for her husband, George Woody Thompson, Sr., through many years of failing health until his passing; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Thompson will forever be remembered as a strong Christian with an indelible smile and a general love for people; and

WHEREAS, she was the beloved mother of our colleague Senator Steve Thompson and is also survived by son Woody Thompson; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister; and

WHEREAS, while in life she commanded the esteem of her fellow Georgians, in her death we mingle our sympathies with the grief of her family and friends.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body honor the memory of Virginia Thompson and express their regret at her passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Virginia Thompson.
