RESOLUTION
Recognizing
Volunteer Firefighter Allen "Butch" Eleam; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
on May 15, 2005, the Summerville Fire Department was called out to a structure
fire with suspected entrapment; and
WHEREAS,
Eleam arrived at the same time as Engine 9 and upon arrival was informed there
were possibly people still inside the burning residence, so he made a forcible
entry; and
WHEREAS,
when Eleam entered the home there was heavy black smoke and intense heat, yet he
was able to find an unconscious woman in the second room of his search;
and
WHEREAS,
Eleam dragged the unconscious woman through and ultimately out of the burning
house and went back with two other firefighters to search for other victims and
to extinguish the fire; and
WHEREAS,
the victim Eleam rescued from the burning home was revived on the scene and
later treated for smoke inhalation; and
WHEREAS,
Eleam´s disregard for his own well-being and quick actions saved the life
of another person.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Firefighter Allen "Butch" Eleam for his heroic
acts.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Firefighter
Allen "Butch" Eleam.
