A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Reverend Charles E. Goodman, Jr., and the Tabernacle Baptist
Church; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Tabernacle Baptist Church was founded on August 21, 1885, in Augusta,
Georgia, under the organizational leadership of the Reverend Charles Thomas
Walker; and
WHEREAS,
the seeds which were sown by the loving and committed efforts of those devout
worshipers have grown over the church's 122 year history into a landmark
institution which is internationally known and widely respected throughout
Georgia and the nation; and
WHEREAS,
the devoted congregation of this church has established an unparalleled record
of constructive, compassionate, and humanitarian service, and the church now
offers a broad range of religious programs for people of all ages while
continuing to serve as a beacon of light and a ray of spiritual hope;
and
WHEREAS,
under the strong and devoted leadership of nine previous pastors, the church has
prospered spiritually, grown financially, and increased its membership more than
tenfold from its originally enrolled 310 members; and
WHEREAS,
on April 22, 2007, the Reverend Charles E. Goodman, Jr., will be installed as
the tenth pastor of the historic Tabernacle Baptist Church, and he comes to this
church with a rich intellectual and spiritual background; and
WHEREAS,
the Reverend Goodman graduated at the top of his high school class, graduated
with honors from Wake Forest University in North Carolina, and received his
Masters of Divinity from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in
Atlanta; and
WHEREAS,
the Reverend Goodman was voted one of "America's Most Loved Pastors" in 2006 by
the Gospel Today Magazine, and under his dynamic and innovative leadership his
former church, Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church, became one of the
fastest growing churches in eastern Alabama; and
WHEREAS,
with the insightful and charismatic leadership of a new pastor who is dedicated
to spreading the good news of the Gospel to everyone he meets, the Tabernacle
Baptist Church shall remain steadfast and loyal to its mission--focusing on
witnessing to and serving God's people through prayer, worship, education,
fellowship, ministering to those in need, and liberating the oppressed, all for
the glory of God.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize the Reverend Charles E. Goodman, Jr., and the faithful
members of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, express their appreciation for the
church's outstanding Christian history of community service, and convey their
sincere best wishes for continued growth and success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Reverend
Charles E. Goodman, Jr., and the Tabernacle Baptist Church.
