A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Larry Hanson; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, since July of 1995, Larry Hanson has served with admirable precision and dedication as the city manager for the City of Valdosta, overseeing the operation of 11 departments, 715 employees, and an $85 million annual budget; and

WHEREAS, Larry Hanson began his remarkable career of public service to the citizens of Valdosta in 1975 and during his tenure with the city, he has been instrumental in facilitating the community's growth into one of Georgia's most promising of metropolitan areas; and

WHEREAS, Larry Hanson has developed and implemented numerous public policy initiatives, including policies that have allowed the city to lower its millage rate in seven of the 12 years he has served as city manager; and

WHEREAS, Larry Hanson was a member of the charter class of the Leadership Lowndes program, serving as its president twice, and was a member of the Leadership Georgia Class of 1994; and

WHEREAS, he was the 2003 recipient of Valdosta State University's Loyce Turner Award for Distinguished Public Service, the 2004 recipient of the Excellence in Public Service Award presented by the Carl Vinson Institute of Government and Georgia Trend magazine, and the 2004 recipient of the 25 Most Influential South Georgians by the Valdosta Daily Times; and

WHEREAS, he has served as a member of the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) Legislative Policy Council since its inception in 2003 and has chaired the Revenue and Finance Committee; and

WHEREAS, Larry Hanson was one of the lead negotiators for GMA in 2003 and 2004 when the Georgia General Assembly passed the landmark legislation providing cities more meaningful access to the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, and during the 2007 session, he has been significantly involved in legislation regarding point of sale sales tax data and is one of the co-authors of the amended annexation legislation; and

WHEREAS, in honor of his magnificent qualifications, Larry Hanson was selected by his peers to serve as the current president of the Georgia City-County Managers Association.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize this extraordinary servant of the State of Georgia, Larry Hanson; express gratitude for his indispensable knowledge and expertise in governmental matters; and extend to him their sincerest best wishes for the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Larry Hanson.
