A RESOLUTION


Commending J. T. Williams and inviting him to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, J. T. Williams has developed seven prominent golf courses and communities in Georgia and Florida that have hosted a number of high caliber events, including 20 PGA Tournaments and 21 LPGA Tournaments; and

WHEREAS, prior to developing golf courses, he was a CPA who worked for Price Waterhouse in New York City, and he achieved the highest all-time score on the Florida CPA Exam on his first sitting; and

WHEREAS, since moving to Georgia, he has demonstrated his commitment to public service by accepting appointments to major boards by Governor Zell Miller, Governor Roy Barnes, Speaker Tom Murphy, and Governor Sonny Perdue, including the State Board of Education, the North Georgia Metropolitan Water Board, Governor Perdue's Task Force on Congestion Mitigation, the Georgia Department of Transportation, the Atlanta Regional Commission, and the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority, where he is chairman of Projects and Planning; and

WHEREAS, in Henry County, he served two terms as chairman of the Henry Chamber of Commerce, receiving the Herman Talmadge Visionary Award in honor of his quality instrumental leadership in transforming Henry County into one of the fastest growing counties in the United States, and in Rabun County, he serves with equal distinction on the Development Authority and as chairman of the Convention and Visitors Board; and

WHEREAS, his Waterfall Country Club golf course was recognized by Pinnacle Living magazine as the “Most Spectacular Golf Course in the Southern Mountains” and is ranked every year as one of the “Five Best of the Best Private Courses” in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he has sponsored a number of projects to preserve Georgia's natural resources,
including the installation of a state of the art private municipal wastewater treatment plant to serve the Waterfall community and help preserve Lake Burton and other surrounding resources; and

WHEREAS, he has donated millions of dollars of land for schools, excess right of ways, and other governmental uses; and

WHEREAS, his actions have brought honor to the State of Georgia and the United States.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize J. T. Williams, commend his numerous outstanding accomplishments, and invite him to appear before this body on a date and time designated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to J. T. Williams.
