RESOLUTION
Expressing
regret at the passing of Colonel Joseph Bodell Bergen; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens with
the passing of Colonel Joseph Bodell Bergen; and
WHEREAS,
he has long been recognized by the citizens of Savannah and Chatham County for
the vital role he played in leadership and jurisprudence and for his deep
personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community as evidenced
dramatically by his many years of superlative service as an active member of
many organizations, including the Roman Catholic Church, the Knights of
Columbus, the Hiberian Society of Savannah, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, the
Georgia Historical Society, the Holland Society of New York, Sons of the
Revolution, the Military Order of the Stars and Bars, and the Military Order of
the World Wars; and
WHEREAS,
the Colonel was renowned for his significant organizational and leadership
talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and
his sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of his community, earning him the
respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; and
WHEREAS,
this singular gentleman was a person of magnanimous strengths with an
unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness;
and
WHEREAS,
the passing of this generous, kind, and devoted family man leaves an unfillable
void in the hearts and lives of his family and friends.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of
Colonel Joseph Bodell Bergen and commend him for a lifetime of efficient,
effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Colonel Joseph Bodell Bergen.
