RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mike and Lynn Cottrell; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mike and Lynn Cottrell have made an amazing $10 million donation to North
Georgia College & State University, the largest single gift in the school's
134 year history, to benefit the School of Business & Government, which will
now be named the Mike Cottrell School of Business; and
WHEREAS,
Mike Cottrell was born in Vohburg, Germany in 1953 and is the owner and operator
of Cottrell, Inc., the world's largest supplier of overland automobile transport
equipment; and
WHEREAS,
Lynn Cottrell was born in Gainesville, Georgia, in 1967 and is a cofounder of
the Cottrell Circle C. Ranch, LLC, a registered Black Angus cattle breeding
business; and
WHEREAS,
Mike and Lynn participate in a number of outstanding philanthropies in order to
share their success with the community, and their donation to North Georgia
College & State University will establish the Center for the Future of North
Georgia, which will be an applied research resource for local governments,
economic development authorities, and businesses in North Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
the donated funds will immensely benefit the students of North Georgia College
& State University by allowing the school to offer an increased number of
internships and applied research opportunities that will equip graduates with
the tools they need to be effective leaders in the business world of tomorrow;
and
WHEREAS,
Mike Cottrell is a former United States Air Force Reservist and has served his
neighbors in a number of civic capacities, including chairman of the Lumpkin
County Development Authority, vice chairman of the Lumpkin County Water and
Sewerage Authority, director on the board of the United Community Bank of
Dahlonega, vice chairman of the North Georgia College & State University
Business Advisory Council, and a member of the North Georgia College & State
University Foundation Board of Trustees; and
WHEREAS,
Lynn Cottrell's leadership was instrumental in organizing a fashion show that
raised more than $18,000 for the Meth Task Force of Enotah Circuit, and she has
served the community as a member of the American Angus Association, a member of
the Georgia Cattlemen's Association, a member of Corinth Baptist Church, a
planner and hostess for the largest Republican rally in North Georgia, a sponsor
for the Old Fashioned Christmas in Dahlonega, and a board member of the Lumpkin
County Family Connection; and
WHEREAS,
the inspiring actions of these two distinguished humanitarians have brought
honor to the State of Georgia and the United States.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Mike and Lynn Cottrell in honor of their generous $10
million donation to North Georgia College & State University; commend them
for their extensive service to the citizens of Georgia; and extend to them their
sincerest best wishes for their continued health, success, and
fulfillment.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mike and Lynn
Cottrell.
