RESOLUTION
Honoring
and remembering the life of Dr. Edwin Davis; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia lost one of its most distinguished citizens with the
passing of Dr. Edwin Davis; and
WHEREAS,
he was born May 20, 1957, in Coffee County and spent his career as an educator
in Atkinson, Camden, and Coffee counties; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Davis was hired on July 1, 2006, as superintendent of schools to the Coffee
County School System; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Davis was in Douglas a short period of time, but had an immediate impact
that leaves a lasting vision for the staff and faculty of the system;
and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Davis was dedicated to raising graduation percentages and pushed to bring
all schools in the system into line with Annual Yearly Progress (AYP)
guidelines; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Davis was known for his drive and enthusiasm, and poured his heart and soul
into each and every thing he did; and
WHEREAS,
he also had a lighter side, and as a teenager was a great Elvis fan and
impersonated Elvis for inmates at Atkinson County jail with renditions of
Elvis's songs; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Davis had an unshakable faith in God, and his Christian faith gave him
strength in the face of his illness; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Davis is survived by his wife, Melinda Davis; son Jake Davis; sister
Charlotte Fussell; brothers Michael Davis and Ronnie Davis; and several nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join together to express their deepest regret at the passing of Dr. Edwin Davis and extend their most sincere condolences to his family.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
