RESOLUTION
Recognizing
April 24, 2007, as Valdosta/Lowndes Teens Against Bullying Day; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Valdosta/Lowndes Teens Against Bullying Committee composed of students from
Lowndes High School and Valdosta High School, Valdosta/Lowndes community members
and business partners, and employees of Lowndes County and Valdosta City
Schools are in collaboration to take a stand against bullying in their community
through teaching an anti-bullying curriculum to city and county fourth grade
students; and
WHEREAS,
the Valdosta/Lowndes Teens Against Bullying program is a program of advocacy
using existing and emerging student leaders who understand the problems of
bullying and how it can be resolved, thereby enhancing their schools and making
them safer; and
WHEREAS,
the Valdosta/Lowndes Teens Against Bullying student leaders were nominated and
selected from both Lowndes and Valdosta High Schools and comprise a
representation of individuals from throughout the community a variety of social,
economic, and professional concerns and went through an extensive training
retreat held at Valdosta Technical College on Saturday, April 14, 2007;
and
WHEREAS,
the Valdosta/Lowndes Teens Against Bullying program has the mission of educating
students and the community of the negative effects of bullying and developing in
them a respect for the integrity and rights of others; and
WHEREAS,
this endeavor has received full support and approval of the Valdosta City
Schools and Lowndes County Schools superintendent and board of education,
Valdosta High School and Lowndes High School principals, and principals of the
pilot fourth grade schools in the Valdosta City and Lowndes County School
Systems; and
WHEREAS, the funding for this endeavor has come solely from donations from supporting businesses who perceive the goals and missions of this organization as a positive impact on the Valdosta/Lowndes community; and

WHEREAS,
it is appropriate that this body join in expressing its support and endorsement
of these efforts to improve this Georgia community.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize April 24, 2007, as Valdosta/Lowndes Teens Against Bullying
Day in recognition of the stand these amazing students have taken against
bullying and the leadership role they have undertaken in the fight for a more
peaceful community.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the
Valdosta/Lowndes Teens Against Bullying Committee.
