A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and honoring Shelby Lacy for a lifetime of outstanding service in the field of nursing; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Shelby Lacy, R.N. M.S.N., is the honoree of the 2006 Georgia Hospital Association Lifetime Heroic Achievement Award in recognition of her 43 years of resolute and altruistic dedication to health education and the practice of the healing arts; and

WHEREAS, for her indefatigable and visionary dedication, Shelby Lacy has been honored in the past by receiving the Medical College of Georgia E. Lewis Grant Award for Distinguished Alumni, being named Athens Woman of Distinction for the Girl Scouts of Northeast Georgia, receiving the Distinguished Service Award from the Georgia Nurses Association, being named Boss of the Year for Athens Regional Health Services, and receiving the Mary N. Long Award for Innovation in Nursing Practice from the Georgia Nurses Foundation; and

WHEREAS, she was instrumental in the creation of the Department of Education at the Athens Regional Medical Center where she is currently manager of health education; and

WHEREAS, Shelby Lacy is celebrated for her inspirational leadership, as demonstrated by her promotion of new health programs in cardiac resuscitation, enterostomal therapy, infection control, critical care education, CPR training, and nursing internships for recent graduates; and

WHEREAS, she was one of the primary leaders in establishing the Athens Clinic for the Homeless, which saw almost 4,700 clients in 2005, and continues to serve on its Board of Directors and has served as the chair of Clarke County's Board of Health, chair of the Athens-Clarke County Family Connection Board, and two terms as president of Georgia Nurses Association District 11; and

WHEREAS, she is also an indispensable member of the community, serving her fellow citizens as a member of the Athens Pilot Club and the League of Women Voters and Partners for a Prosperous Athens; and

WHEREAS, Shelby Lacy has brought great honor to the nursing profession, the City of Athens, and the State of Georgia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the work of Shelby Lacy for her years of selfless work as an outstanding nurse, health educator, and leader of the medical community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Shelby Lacy.
