A RESOLUTION


Commending Judith Nail for an excellent career in arts education; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Judith Nail has served the Muscogee County School District for nearly 30 years as an arts education coordinator and director and her expertise has been indispensable in the dissemination of arts education and advocacy throughout the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, determined to bring students into a more direct experience of the arts, Judith Nail has organized countless field trips, exhibitions, and competitions and has collaborated with organizations such as the Artist Guild of Columbus, the Center for Puppetry Arts, the Columbus Museum, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, and the Springer Theatre; and

WHEREAS, she has served on a considerable number of boards and professional committees, including the Georgia Alliance for Arts Education, the Georgia Council for the Arts, the Georgia Music Educators Association, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Young Audiences of Atlanta; and

WHEREAS, she is the distinguished honoree of such awards as the Georgia PTA Honorary Founder Award, the Governor's Award in the Humanities, and the certificate for Educator of Achievement as well as the Woman of Achievement Award from the National League of American Pen Women; and

WHEREAS, the arts enhance education success for our children through the teaching of complex and abstract ideas; the nurturing of the development of cognitive, social, and personal competencies; and the reaching of otherwise unreachable students.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Judith Nail for her many years of devotion to arts education and extend to her the best of wishes for a fulfilling retirement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Judith Nail.
