RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life of Frank Fitch, Jr.; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Georgia lost one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Frank
Fitch, Jr., on November 14, 2006; and
WHEREAS,
Frank Fitch was born on July 16, 1922, a native of Athens, Georgia, and he
attended school at North Georgia College and the University of Georgia and later
obtained his master´s degree at Texas A & M; and
WHEREAS,
Frank Fitch was a true American hero and proudly served his country as a first
lieutenant in the Marine Corps during World War II where he was wounded in the
Battle of Iwo Jima; and
WHEREAS,
he went on to work with the Extension Service as a Wildlife Specialist in Athens
and at Auburn University until 1954 when he became the Wildlife Biologist at
Rock Eagle 4-H Center, responsible for the management of natural resources;
and
WHEREAS,
he will long be remembered by the many young people who experienced wildlife for
the first time at Rock Eagle for his dedication to the 4-H center and for his
work with the summer camp where he became known as "Doc Fitch" by the summer
camp counselors and his many friends; and
WHEREAS,
Doc Fitch greatly influenced the environmental education program, and the Frank
Fitch Pioneer Camp at Rock Eagle stands as a legacy to the programs he
initiated; and
WHEREAS,
Frank Fitch was an honorable gentleman, a true scholar, a real friend, a valiant
champion for youth, and a great lover of nature, and he will be sorely missed by
all those who knew him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life of Frank Fitch, Jr., remembering him for the
many contributions he made to the citizens of this state, and expressing their
sorrow at his passing.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Frank Fitch, Jr.
