WHEREAS, the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most distinguished young individuals with the untimely passing of Kevin Gemario "Doc" Dukes; and

WHEREAS, Kevin knew that he wanted to fly from a very young age, and in order to pursue his dreams of becoming a pilot, he began his aviation training at the age of 15, attending Ace Flight School at Charlie Brown Airport; and

WHEREAS, he left his native Atlanta to study Aerospace Engineering at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in 2001, and, upon graduation, he moved to Seattle to begin his career at The Boeing Company; and

WHEREAS, as a certified flight instructor and a commercial pilot, Kevin logged more than 400 flight hours and 350 hours as pilot in command, flying around the world to such places as Iceland, Australia, Brazil, Mauritius, Dubai, Tokyo, and Singapore; and

WHEREAS, Kevin started his own flight instruction business, Iron Eagle L.L.C, and he wrote that aviation was his true passion in life and that he dreamed of becoming a test pilot or an airline captain; and

WHEREAS, Kevin Dukes lived the following words attributed to the famous pilot, Charles Lindberg: "I owned the world that hour as I rode over it, free of the earth, free of the mountains, free of the clouds, but how inseparably I was bound to them"; and

WHEREAS, Kevin was in a tragic plane crash on August 4, 2005, but while the loss of any loved one is a terrible event, his friends and family in Georgia and elsewhere know that Kevin departed while he was doing what he loved.
