RESOLUTION
Commending
Lawton McDonald Nease, Jr.; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Lawton McDonald Nease, Jr., a distinguished leader, husband, father,
grandfather, great-grandfather, and exemplary citizen of Effingham County, has
recently been awarded the Rotary Club of Effingham County's Lifetime Service
Above Self Award; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Nease cofounded the Fifth Sunday Men's Breakfast with Neil Wilkins Ratchford
to provide an opportunity for men of faith to express their affection for their
families, churches, and communities and partake of an excellent meal of sausage,
grits, eggs, and biscuits; and
WHEREAS,
the Fifth Sunday Breakfast has served an estimated 10,000 men during its 50
years of operation, making it the longest running activity of its kind in the
region; and it has hosted a number of notable guests, including President Jimmy
Carter, U.S. Senators Sam Nunn and Mack Mattingly, numerous congressmen, and
state and local officials; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Nease served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and
was an independent businessman for more than 60 years; and
WHEREAS,
he served his community selflessly as a member of Guyton Historical Society, the
Historic Effingham Society, a member the Southeast Planning Commission under
Presidents Nixon and Ford, and as a member of the Guyton City Council for 30
years; and
WHEREAS,
he has shared more than 60 years of wonderful marriage with Jane Poole Nease,
and they are blessed with three children, four grandchildren, and six
great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Nease has taught Sunday school at Guyton United Methodist Church for more
than 50 years, and he has been a member of the Masonic Order for more than 60
years; and
WHEREAS,
he has been honored with the Effingham Chamber of Commerce Treutlen Award, an
award named after John Adam Treutlen, the first elected governor of Georgia and
a citizen of Effingham County; and
WHEREAS,
as he has commanded the esteem of his friends and neighbors, it is fitting and
proper to commend such a distinguished citizen.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring Lawton McDonald Nease, Jr., commending his continuing
service to Effingham, the State of Georgia, and the United States, and extending
to him their sincerest best wishes for his future health and
happiness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Lawton
McDonald Nease, Jr.
