A RESOLUTION


Recognizing Thomas Dixon "T.D." Brown; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Thomas Dixon "T.D." Brown, Cairo High School's first vocational agriculture teacher, will be honored at the Future Farmers of America (FFA) banquet on March 29, 2007; and

WHEREAS, he earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Georgia in 1935 and was hired by Superintendent John Herndon to begin the new vocational agriculture program at Cairo High School; and

WHEREAS, he arrived in Cairo on August 30, 1935, beginning a long and distinguished career in agriculture education in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, in 1936, Mr. Brown and the FFA boys built the Cairo Canning Plant and put it into operation; and

WHEREAS, he taught classes, advised the FFA chapter, and coached FFA competitive teams; and

WHEREAS, he found time to both court and marry a young lady, Martha Burroughs, in 1936; and

WHEREAS, an outstanding vocational agriculture teacher beloved by his students, he was coaxed from Cairo in 1939 to oversee construction of the FFA camp at Lake Jackson, and in 1943 became executive secretary of the Georgia FFA; and

WHEREAS, for his contribution of his time, talents, and energy to agriculture education in the State of Georgia, it is most fitting that this body recognize this extraordinary Georgian and his dedication to educating the youth of our state.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize Thomas Dixon "T.D." Brown for his contributions to agriculture education in Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Thomas Dixon "T.D." Brown.
