A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
and remembering the life of Prentis Mayfield; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia lost one of its most distinguished citizens with the
passing of Prentis "P" Mayfield on February 22, 2007; and
WHEREAS,
he was born on March 28, 1945, to Lloyd David "L.D." Mayfield and Willie Van
Mattox Mayfield; and
WHEREAS,
he was an extremely dedicated member of the United States armed forces, serving
for two years in Vietnam and one year in Germany, and he was selected for the
Selective Service Committee for the State of Georgia and served on the draft
board for 25 years; and
WHEREAS,
he was baptized at a young age at the Hartwell First Baptist Church, where he
served faithfully as an assistant superintendent and then superintendent of the
Sunday school and chairman of the Deacon Board; and
WHEREAS,
he was esteemed by family and friends as a man of laughter, who loved
landscaping, fishing, and riding around the countryside, and who had a unique
gift for building and fixing cabinets; and
WHEREAS,
his dedication to serving his community was surpassed only by his love for his
family, and he is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Sarah Jean Rice
Mayfield; children, Sonia, Kevin, and Adrienne; three grandchildren; Derek,
Chanel, and Chris; sister, Patricia; and a host of wonderful relatives,
colleagues, and neighbors; and
WHEREAS,
in life he commanded the esteem of his fellow Georgians; at his death it is
fitting and proper that we extend sympathy to his family, colleagues, and
friends.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join together to express their deepest regret at the passing of
Prentis Mayfield and extend their most sincere condolences to his
family.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Prentis Mayfield.
