RESOLUTION
Commending
Dr. Willie "Bill" Golden and inviting him to appear before the House of
Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dr. Willie "Bill" Golden has had a long and distinguished career as a public
servant spanning more than 48 years; and
WHEREAS,
he is a native of Wilkinson County and holds a Certificate from Middle Georgia
College and earned his B.S. and M.S. Degrees from the University of Georgia and
a Ph. D. from Texas A&M University; and
WHEREAS,
his leadership abilities were evident at an early age when elected President of
his high school junior class and Captain of his football team; and
WHEREAS,
he further distinguished himself by being elected President of the Middle
Georgia College student body and named Captain of the Middle Georgia College
football team; and
WHEREAS,
his stellar good looks, keen wit, and southern charm earned him the titles of
Mr. Freshman and Mr. Middle Georgia College; and
WHEREAS,
his professional choices led him into a long and illustrious career with the
University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service; and
WHEREAS,
he later joined the ranks of Georgia Southern University first as the Director
of Corporate and Foundation Relations, then as President of the Georgia Southern
University Foundation, and more recently served as Director of Governmental
Relations for Georgia Southern University; and
WHEREAS,
he has served his profession and community through his participation and
leadership on numerous professional and civic organizations; and
WHEREAS,
he now ends his career to spend those "golden" years with his lovely wife,
Julie; and
WHEREAS,
the "Dean" of the Shoeshine Gang will be missed by his colleagues of the
University System.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body congratulate Dr. Willie "Bill" Golden upon his retirement, commend him
for his many achievements and contributions to the welfare of this state, and
invite him to appear before the House of Representatives on a date and at a time
to be determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Willie
"Bill" Golden.
