RESOLUTION
Celebrating
the 200th anniversary of the founding of Jones County, Georgia; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
historic Jones County was created from Baldwin County on December 10, 1807, by
an Act of the General Assembly; and
WHEREAS,
Jones County was named for U.S. Representative James Jones, an early Georgia
Congressman and member of the State Constitutional Convention of 1798; and
WHEREAS,
the original seat of Jones County was Clinton, which was established in 1808 and
was once the fourth largest city in the state; and
WHEREAS,
today Jones County is moving forward through economic development, cultural
tourism, and industrial growth; and
WHEREAS,
Jones County provides a harmonious and wonderful home and an outstanding
quality of life for its residents; and
WHEREAS,
the future of Jones County is bright because it is "Building Our Future on 200
Years of Our Past."
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in celebrating the 200th anniversary of the founding of Jones
County and extend to each and every resident of the county their best wishes on
this auspicious occasion.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Jones
County Board of Commissioners.
