A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and congratulating Greg Teems for being named the 2007 Artist of the Year by the Rockmart Civic Arts Commission; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Greg Teems is a celebrated music teacher, an accomplished saxophonist, and a dedicated family man in Rockmart, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Greg graduated from Rockmart High School in 1982, earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education at Jacksonville State University in 1987, and returned home to serve as the Rockmart High School band director; and

WHEREAS, while attending Jacksonville State University, Greg was a member of the Marching Southerners, the A Capella Choir, the Saxophone Choir, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a professional fraternity for men in music, where he served as chapter president; and

WHEREAS, Greg has played saxophone in the Clocktower Jazz Ensemble for 15 years and currently serves as the drum major and assistant program coordinator for the CorpsVets Drum & Bugle Corps, where he has won a number of Drum Corps Associates (DCA) world titles and seven consecutive DCA championship titles; and

WHEREAS, Greg has passionately taught music to countless students at Rockmart High School, Eastside Elementary School, and Elm Street Middle School, maintaining that music holds no barriers based on age, family background, or economic status; and

WHEREAS, his love of music is surpassed only by his devotion to his family, and Greg is a loving husband to his wife, Robyn, and a fantastic father to his children, Taylor and Connor; and

WHEREAS, as a teacher and a musician, Greg Teems has contributed to the cultural livelihood of the Rockmart community and to the future of the State of Georgia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize the laudable career of Greg Teems, commend him for his outstanding service to the youth of Georgia, and congratulate him for being named the 2007 Artist of the Year by the Rockmart Civic Arts Commission.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Greg Teems.
