RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and congratulating Carson Hand on being named one of the top youth volunteers in
Georgia for 2007; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Carson Hand has been named a Distinguished Finalist in the 12th Annual
Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and
WHEREAS,
this prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with
the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers
across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to their
communities; and
WHEREAS,
Carson, who is 18 and a senior at Northside High School in Columbus, delivers
motivational speeches and songs across the country to inspire young people and
adults who are battling cancer; and
WHEREAS,
after his own successful treatment for liver cancer, he prepared a speech and
wrote a song about making the best of every opportunity, which he now shares
with cancer-related groups, school students, service clubs, military personnel,
and other audiences; and
WHEREAS,
the success of the State of Georgia, the strength of our communities, and the
overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the
dedication of young people like Carson who use their considerable talents to
serve others.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body honor and congratulate Carson Hand as a Distinguished Finalist for a
Prudential Spirit of Community Award, recognize his outstanding record of
volunteer service, peer leadership, and community spirit, and extend best wishes
for his continued success and fulfillment.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Carson Hand.
