RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and congratulating Ms. Louise Russell Hancock on being named the Distinguished
Senior Georgian for 2007; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Louise Russell Hancock was born in Cordele, Georgia, on July 21, 1910, where her
father, Archie English Russell, worked for the railroad and her mother, Nellie
Dorminy Russell, was a homemaker; and
WHEREAS,
she married James Newton Hancock, Jr., at the age of 19 and migrated to Ocilla,
Georgia, where they raised two children, James Newton Hancock III and Emily Sue
Hancock Neighbors, and were married for 67 wonderful years; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Hancock began working for Southeastern Telephone Co., later known as GTE, in
1950, retiring in 1975 after 25 years of exceptional service; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Hancock, called "Miss Louise" by many in Ocilla, has set an example of
service in her community as a Sunday School teacher at the Ocilla Baptist
Church, den mother for the Boy Scouts, and an outstanding mentor to local youth;
and
WHEREAS,
she now resides in Heritage Care Assisted Living in Ocilla, Georgia, where she
will celebrate her 97th birthday this July.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize the amazing life of Ms. Louise Russell Hancock and
congratulate her on being named the Distinguished Senior Georgian for
2007.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Louise
Russell Hancock.
