A RESOLUTION


Commending Hiram A. (Joe) Little as the Distinguished Senior Georgian for 2007; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Hiram A. Little was born in Eatonton, Georgia, on March 31, 1919, and was one of the original Tuskegee Airmen; and

WHEREAS, he served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II from 1941 to 1945, assigned to the 99th Fighter Squadron at Tuskegee Army Air Field, where he installed and maintained weapons systems on fighter aircraft and later became a navigator-bombardier as a crew member and flight officer on the B-25 Bomber, assigned to the 477th Bomber Group; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Little graduated from Morehouse College with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1947 and more recently received a Certificate in Carpentry from Atlanta Technical College in 2006; and

WHEREAS, he is a former scout master and one of the founders of the Atlanta Chapter, Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. (TAI) Explorers Scout Program and holds the record for the number of public appearances for TAI, annually averaging about 30 such appearances at public schools and colleges; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Little is a constant contributor to Aviation Career Enrichment (ACE) camps, conducted by the Organization of Black Airline Pilots (OBAP), the National Coalition of Black Federal Aviation Employees (NCBFAE), the Alliance of Black Telecommunications Employees (ABTE), the Explorer Scout Programs in Georgia and Alabama, and serves on the Board of Directors at the American Museum of Patriotism and the Atlanta Chapter, Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., where he serves as the Chaplain; and

WHEREAS, "Hiram A. Little Day" is celebrated annually every third Sunday in February at the Texas AME Church in Eatonton, Georgia, as a testament to his many contributions; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Little has the energy and tenacity of a much younger person, continuing to inspire young and old and encouraging them to recognize and appreciate the importance of developing a positive self-worth.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Mr. Hiram A. (Joe) Little as the Distinguished Senior Georgian for 2007.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Hiram A. (Joe) Little.
