RESOLUTION
Commending
Dorothy "Dolly" Hearn on being awarded a posthumous Doctor of Dental Medicine
degree; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dolly Hearn always had ambitions of following in her father´s footsteps
after working in his Washington, Georgia, dental office during the summers while
growing up; and
WHEREAS,
her dreams were cut short when she died in the summer of 1990, just one year
short of earning her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Medical College
of Georgia School of Dentistry; and
WHEREAS,
the School of Dentistry has decided to award Ms. Hearn a posthumous professional
degree, the same degree she would have earned had she completed dental school in
1991; now she can be forever known as Dr. Dolly; and
WHEREAS,
when her life was cut short in 1990, Georgia lost a promising new dentist, her
classmates lost an esteemed colleague, and her family lost a loving daughter and
sister; and
WHEREAS,
her parents established a scholarship in Ms. Hearn´s name 16 years ago, and
each year, the junior class awards the scholarship to the classmate who
demonstrates the most care and compassion for patients and a commitment to
dentistry.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Dorothy "Dolly" Hearn on being awarded a posthumous Doctor of
Dental Medicine degree.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Dorothy "Dolly" Hearn.
