A RESOLUTION


Congratulating Dee and Joe Sports on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dee Plymell of Thomasville, Georgia, was a medical technician working at the Douglas-Coffee County Hospital when she met a young reporter for the Douglas Enterprise, Joe Sports;

WHEREAS, their marriage ceremony was celebrated on February 24, 1957, at the Dawson Street Methodist Church in Thomasville, followed by a reception at the Three Toms Inn and a wedding trip to New Orleans; and

WHEREAS, in subsequent years Dee joined Joe in Germany while he served as a photographer for the Army and they later moved to Washington where Joe was a congressional aide, and then on to Albany where Joe took a position as a newsman with WALB television station; and

WHEREAS, Joe´s career took them to Atlanta where Joe became executive director of the Democratic Party of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Dee assisted Joe in starting his successful consulting business; and

WHEREAS, Dee worked for 16 years in the offices of Max Cleland, when he was Georgia Secretary of State and then when he was elected as United States Senator; and

WHEREAS, Joe and Dee are parents of a beloved daughter, Susan Sports, an information officer for the Department of Driver Services, and the grandparents of two wonderful boys, Ali and Amir; and

WHEREAS, through the years Joe and Dee Sports have been active in community and church affairs; and

WHEREAS, since they have made substantial contributions and provided invaluable service to their community, their church, and state government it is abundantly fitting and proper that this body should recognize and congratulate this wonderful couple on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Joe and Dee Sports for their many decades of unyielding strength and unparalleled inspiration, congratulate them upon the joyous occasion of their golden wedding anniversary, and extend to them best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Joe and Dee Sports.
