A RESOLUTION


Expressing regret at the passing of Mrs. Alberta Davis; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Alberta Davis was over 100 years old and lived an extraordinary life crediting her longevity to hard work and good living and some think to the lemon juice she squeezed into her coffee, known to her as her "special medicine"; and

WHEREAS, she preferred the soft glow of kerosene lamp years after electricity came to Georgia, she enjoyed her radio for news, but she preferred the sound of her own music with voice and guitar; and

WHEREAS, although she was known for her heavenly biscuits and immaculate yard, she is best known for her kindness and her wisdom; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Davis never learned to read or write, but she heartily encouraged her children and grandchildren to go to school and go to church; and

WHEREAS, her exact age is unknown, however, records and research indicate she was between 109 and 118 and some think as old as 125 years old; and

WHEREAS, regardless of her age, she never lost her mental edge and was a treasure of memories telling stories of the dark chapters as a child of slaves as well as the light and joys of her life; and

WHEREAS, she was an extraordinary woman whose passing leaves an unfillable void in the hearts and lives of her family, friends, and community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Mrs. Alberta Davis.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mrs. Alberta Davis.
