RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Ms. Laurie Lewis; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ms. Laurie Lewis is a wonderful single parent, a successful businesswoman, and
an inspiration to Georgians everywhere; and
WHEREAS,
she is known for her vibrant charisma and her uncanny ability to put other at
ease; and
WHEREAS,
with a college double major in political science and sociology and a minor in
Spanish, she was well equipped when she accepted a position as librarian with
the Spanish language school, Esquela de las Americas, where she worked until she
accepted a job in sales with an insurance agency; and
WHEREAS,
when she moved back to her beloved Manchester, Georgia, she began her career in
advertising with Trib Publications, and after three years she accepted a
position with Cable Time Advertising, Inc., where she mastered television sales,
but she was drawn back to the print medium and eventually accepted her current
position as advertising director with Star-Mercury Publishing, Inc.;
and
WHEREAS,
she has realized great success, as under her direction the five newspapers
published by the company have increased their advertising each year she has been
in charge; and
WHEREAS,
the key to her success, she says is her philosophy of "treating your customers
with the same respect and appreciation you would give to someone paying your
bills, because in reality, that is what advertising does for the newspaper";
and
WHEREAS,
a single parent, she reserves ample time for her son, Bill Batten, and the two
share a great love of baseball;
and
WHEREAS, although her life has gone through a number of twists and turns, she has overcome the obstacles that stood in her way, and has never failed to lend her strength, confidence, and laughter to whoever may cross her path; and

WHEREAS,
she has brought honor to her family, community, and the State of
Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize and commend Ms. Laurie Lewis for her brilliant success and
for her tireless devotion to her family and community and extend to her their
sincerest best wishes on her future.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Laurie
Lewis.
