RESOLUTION
Expressing
congratulations and best wishes to Mother Ophelia Swanson on the occasion of her
100th birthday; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the year 2007 marks an especially happy occasion: the 100th anniversary of
Mother Ophelia Swanson´s birth; and
WHEREAS,
Ophelia Swanson was born on February 20, 1907, to Rev. Duncan and Sarah Ann
Tucker-Gates, the seventh of 15 children; and
WHEREAS,
she was educated in the Meriwether County School System, where she later worked
as a teacher´s assistant; and
WHEREAS,
she is a former member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church and is a current member
of Neriah Baptist Church, where she served as secretary until her 99th birthday;
and
WHEREAS,
she was married to the late Joseph Swanson for 59 wonderful years;
and
WHEREAS,
Ophelia is the proud mother of John Albert Swanson; grandmother of Joan Johnson,
Michele Simpson, Cheryl Rawls, and Kelvin Swanson; a great-grandmother of five,
and a great-great grandmother of four; and
WHEREAS,
she was treasurer for the U.B.A. Lodge, affiliated with Easter Star, and is an
active member of senior activities in the City of Greenville; and
WHEREAS,
throughout her life Ophelia Swanson has been an outstanding
Georgian.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body hereby recognize the abundant and inspirational life of Ophelia
Swanson and extend the most sincere congratulations and best wishes on the
occasion of her 100th birthday.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ophelia
Swanson.
