RESOLUTION
Honoring
and remembering the life of the late Roy L. Parker III; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Roy L. Parker III, a lifelong resident of the State of Georgia, served the
citizens of Americus, Georgia, and the United States of America with great
distinction; and
WHEREAS,
the Independence Day celebrations of July 4, 2006, marked the anniversary of our
nation´s birth but also the loss of one of Georgia´s finest and most
distinguished citizens, Roy L. Parker III; and
WHEREAS,
he was born on October 17, 1927, in Plains, Georgia, and was the son of the late
Roy Lindsey Parker and Theone Webb Parker; and
WHEREAS,
he attended Americus Public Schools, was a member of the first graduating class
of South Georgia Technical College in 1949, and served on the Board of Trustees
of the South Georgia Technical College Foundation continuously until his
passing; and
WHEREAS,
in 2003, he was recognized and honored by the State of Georgia as the Statewide
Technical College Foundation Volunteer of the Year; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Parker served his country honorably in the U.S. army, was part of the
American occupying force in Japan following World War II, and served active duty
in Korea; and
WHEREAS,
after returning to Georgia from his service abroad, Roy L. Parker III continued
operating Parker´s Heating and Air Conditioning, a business he and his
father started and operated successfully for more than 50 years, ultimately
becoming president of the Conditioned Air Association of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
through his dedicated and lifelong service to others, he changed and improved
countless lives; and
WHEREAS,
he was an inspirational community leader and a devoted family man who in life
commanded the esteem of his fellow Georgians, and it is fitting and proper that
we honor the contributions that he made during his exceptional
life.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body express their deepest appreciation for the life of Roy L. Parker
III.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Roy L. Parker III and to Mr. Sparky Reeves, president of South Georgia Technical
College.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Mr. Sparky Reeves is hereby invited to display this
resolution in a place of prominence on the campus of South Georgia Technical
College.
