A RESOLUTION


Commending Ms. Shirley Hightower; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Shirley Hightower was born on April 4, 1955, in Atlanta, Georgia, as one of 12 children and attended Atlanta public schools, graduating from Samuel Howard Archer High School in 1973; and

WHEREAS, she married in 1974 and has five wonderful children, three girls and two boys, who are all doing well and leading successful lives; her youngest son is the well known hip hop recording artist of the hit song "Party Like a Rock Star"; and

WHEREAS, she is the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren, four grandsons, and nine granddaughters all of whom she loves dearly; and

WHEREAS, she is a Licensed Practical Nurse and a graduate of Atlanta Area Technical College and has worked in various capacities in corporate America, as a private duty nurse, and for seven years with Emory´s Rollin School of Public Health; and

WHEREAS, she has been an advocate for children and has assisted young people throughout her life, serving as president of the A.D. Williams Elementary School for five years; and

WHEREAS, she has been an advocate for the right of residents of public housing, serving as the president of Bowen´s Residents Association, Inc., since 1998; and

WHEREAS, she has served as first lieutenant in the Nation of Islam for four years and is active in the Order of the Eastern Star; and

WHEREAS, it is only proper that this selfless and dedicated public servant be recognized for her many contributions to her community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Ms. Shirley Hightower for her dedicated service to her community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Shirley Hightower.
