A RESOLUTION


Commending Dr. Karl E. Peace; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dr. Karl E. Peace has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in community leadership and his deep personal commitment to public health, Georgia Southern University, and the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Peace is an alumnus of Georgia Southern University and is widely recognized for his sense of philanthropy, his commitment to education and public health, and for his efforts in research, technical support, and management in the pharmaceutical industry; and

WHEREAS, during his distinguished career, he has made pivotal contributions in the development and approval of drugs to treat Alzheimer's disease, gastrointestinal ulcers, anxiety, depression, and panic attacks; and

WHEREAS, he endowed the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health as a tribute to his late wife; and

WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his state as evidenced dramatically by his establishment of the Center for Biostatistics at Georgia Southern University which allows consulting and hands-on training experiences for Biostatistics graduate faculty and students, and he has endowed 13 scholarships totaling over $5.5 million and provided private funding for two eminent chairs totaling over $1 million; and

WHEREAS, he has held senior management positions at SmithKline and French Labs, now known as GlaxoSmithKline; G.D. Searle and Company; and Warner Lambert and Park-Davis, now subsidiaries of Pfizer, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of the State of Georgia have earned him the respect of his associates and colleagues; and

WHEREAS, he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; his loyalty, competency, reliability, and enthusiasm have distinguished his superlative service to the medical field and this state; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Dr. Karl E. Peace for his many decades of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated service to the medical field and the citizens of this state and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Karl E. Peace.
