A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Rome and Bartow Squadrons of the Civil Air Patrol; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
on March 15, 2008, several devastating storms swept through Bartow County, which
spawned multiple tornadoes, generating winds in excess of 100 miles-per-hour,
totally destroying several homes and damaging hundreds of other homes and
businesses; and
WHEREAS,
in the aftermath of these storms, many families were without food, clothing, and
shelter, and hundreds of citizens were in need of emergency relief supplies;
and
WHEREAS,
the director of the Bartow County Emergency Management Agency requested the
assistance of the local Civil Air Patrol to assist in disaster relief efforts
inside the disaster area; and
WHEREAS,
in response to the request, members of the Bartow and Rome Squadrons of the
Civil Air Patrol organized a ground team to distribute emergency relief supplies
to citizens affected by the storms; and
WHEREAS,
the Civil Air Patrol joint disaster relief team conducted multiple sorties into
the disaster area delivering water and emergency repair supplies starting on the
afternoon of March 15, 2008, until the early morning hours of March 16, 2008;
and
WHEREAS,
Civil Air Patrol aircrews also participated by providing aerial surveillance and
aerial photography of the disaster area, providing state and county emergency
management officials with the first views of the storm's path and extent of
damage in the disaster area; and
WHEREAS,
the volunteers of the Civil Air Patrol have consistently provided this state
with emergency and disaster relief services; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the Rome and Bartow Squadrons of the
Civil Air Patrol be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join together to recognize the volunteers of the Bartow and Rome
Squadrons of the Civil Air Patrol, and commend their unselfish contributions to
the citizens of Bartow County and the citizens of the State of
Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the
volunteers of the Bartow and Rome Squadrons of the Civil Air Patrol, the public,
and the press.
