RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mayor Bob Knox, Jr., on the occasion of his retirement; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mayor Bob Knox, Jr., has retired following an exemplary career that spanned
nearly 30 years as mayor of the City of Thomson; and
WHEREAS,
Mayor Knox has served honorably and diligently with heartfelt commitment to his
fellow citizens; and
WHEREAS,
since assuming office on January 8, 1979, he has made improvements to local
government, not only in his home town, but also across the state by his
leadership as a member and chairman on many state boards and commissions,
including his service on the Georgia Municipal Gas Authority, the Department of
Community Affairs, and the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority, and also
his service as President of the Georgia Municipal Association; and
WHEREAS,
as further recognition of his many contributions to local government, in 2007
the Leadership Institute for Municipal Elected Officials, co-sponsored by GMA
and the Carl Vinson Institute of Government, was named in his honor as the
Robert E. Knox, Jr. Municipal Leadership Institute; and
WHEREAS,
Mayor Knox was most noted for his many contributions to the City of Thomson and
McDuffie County and for forging a relationship between the city and county which
serves as a model for other local units of government; and
WHEREAS,
his commitment to his community is further demonstrated by his active service
and leadership role in several local organizations such as the Boy Scouts, the
Harvest Food Bank, and the First United Methodist Church of Thomson;
and
WHEREAS,
the residents of Thomson and the State of Georgia have greatly benefited by the
tremendous public service and effective leadership of Mayor Bob Knox, Jr., and
it is only fitting that this body recognize such an outstanding Georgia
citizen.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in recognizing Mayor Bob Knox, Jr., for his outstanding years of
service to the City of Thomson and the citizens of this state and extend to him
their best of wishes on his retirement.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mayor Bob
Knox, Jr.
