House Resolution 2008

A RESOLUTION


Commending John R. Maddox; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, John R. Maddox was is a native of Atlanta, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he graduated from high school in three years and went on to attend Georgia Tech in 1955, serving as a class officer and competing on the varsity golf team; and

WHEREAS, he served with distinction in the United States Navy from 1955 through 1957; and

WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and the state as evidenced dramatically by his exemplary service in real estate development, management, brokerage, and pro bono work; and

WHEREAS, he served with distinction as the director and president of the Atlanta Board of Realtors and as director of the Georgia Association of Realtors; and

WHEREAS, he has long performed substantial pro bono public service, including chairing Mayor Andrew Young's task force to upgrade the Atlanta building code and computerize the Atlanta building permit process, volunteering as an instructor for the First Tee program at John A. White Golf Course, and consulting the City of Atlanta in renewal negotiations for the city's golf courses lease; and

WHEREAS, he is recognized nationally and internationally as an oenophile and wine expert; and

WHEREAS, he is a loving husband to the wonderfully talented, admired, and patient Bettye Maddox; and
WHEREAS, he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; his loyalty, competency, reliability, and enthusiasm have distinguished his superlative service to this state; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend John R. Maddox for his many decades of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of this state and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to John R. Maddox.
