A
RESOLUTION
Expressing
regret at the passing of Major Jack Woolard; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia recently lost one of its finest and most distinguished
citizens with the passing of Major Jack Woolard; and
WHEREAS,
he diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as
evidenced dramatically by his 34 years of outstanding service as a member of the
Tift County Sheriff's Department; and
WHEREAS,
he served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, and after
serving a combat tour of duty in Vietnam, he returned home and enrolled at
Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and joined the sheriff's office in 1974 as
a member of the uniformed patrol division; and
WHEREAS,
Major Woolard was chosen as the 2006-2007 Public Safety Officer of the Year by
the Georgia Elk's Association, he was the 2002 Liberty Bell Award recipient from
the Tifton Judicial Circuit Bar Association, he received Honorary State Trooper
certification in 1996, he was named a Lieutenant Colonel, Aide de Camp by
Governor Joe Frank Harris, he was awarded the American Legion's Call of Duty
Award in 1999, and he has received numerous letters of appreciation from law
enforcement agencies throughout the Southeast, and of special note is the close
cooperation between Major Woolard and the members of the United States Marshal's
Service and their Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force; and
WHEREAS,
he was a loving husband to his wife of 18 years, Marie; and
WHEREAS,
his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience
and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the
citizens of this state, and especially Tift County, earned him the respect and
admiration of his colleagues and associates; and
WHEREAS,
he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of
his life, he made this world a better place in which to live.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Major
Jack Woolard.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Major Jack Woolard.
