RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Cathy Deng on winning the Georgia Association of Educators' 47th
annual statewide spelling bee; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Cathy Deng, a thirteen year old student at Hillsman Middle School in Athens,
Georgia, won the Georgia Association of Educators' 47th annual statewide
spelling bee by spelling "chrestomathy," which means "a selection of passages
from various authors compiled as an aid to learning a language";
and
WHEREAS,
she will now go on to represent the State of Georgia in the Scripps National
Spelling Bee Championships, scheduled May 25 through May 31, 2008, in
Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
exemplary student be recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join to congratulate Cathy Deng on her achievement of winning the
Georgia Association of Educators' 47th annual statewide spelling bee, and wish
her their most sincere good wishes on her upcoming representation of the State
of Georgia in the Scripps National Spelling Bee Championships.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Cathy Deng.
