A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Andrew Butler; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, as a student at the Fulton Science Academy Middle School in Alpharetta, Georgia, Andrew Butler participated as a member of the school's Science Olympiad team; and

WHEREAS, Science Olympiad teams are academically challenging and intellectually enriching programs in which students practice and compete in tournaments covering the various scientific disciplines; and

WHEREAS, in the regional competition at Georgia State University on February 24, 2007, Andrew Butler and his partner took first place in the "Don't Bug Me" competition covering entomology, and Andrew and his partner took first place in the "Solar System" competition, leading the Fulton Science Academy Middle School Science Olympiad team on its way to an overall first place win; and

WHEREAS, the Fulton Science Academy Middle School team went on to win second place in the state tournament at Augusta State University of March 24, 2007, with a major contribution of a first place finish in entomology by Andrew and his partner; and

WHEREAS, in its first trip to the national tournament, which was held at Wichita State University on May 16-19, 2007, the team performed well and was led by a fifth place finish by Andrew and his partner; and

WHEREAS, this outstanding performance by Andrew Butler is evidence of great natural abilities and hard work and reflects great credit on this fine young man, his school, and the State of Georgia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body does hereby recognize and commend Andrew Butler for his excellent achievements in the 2007 National Science Olympiad tournament and extend to him every best wish for success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Andrew Butler.
