A RESOLUTION


Recognizing L. Douglas Griffith; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on Labor Day, September 4, 1944, Mr. L. Douglas Griffith´s parents, Lemon Gray and Mable Clara Annie Griffith purchased the house and land on each side of Georgia Highway 92; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Griffith was nine months old at the time of his parents´ purchase of this property and has lived on this site continually ever since; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Griffith has followed in his father´s footsteps by assisting in the maintenance of this portion of Highway 92, including removal of debris and directing traffic around accidents and numerous other services; and

WHEREAS, he also has always provided additional service by notifying the Georgia Department of Transportation and the Paulding County Sheriff´s office of dangerous or illegal situations taking place on this stretch of Highway 92; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Griffith is well known to the passing motoring members of the public and has continually farmed both sides of the highway; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Griffith has contributed greatly to the community by performing security work in and around northeast Paulding County and as an active member of Crossroads Baptist Church of Christ, serving as in the office of the clerk for several years as well as other significant contributions; and

WHEREAS, he has been an active member of numerous Paulding County organizations dedicated to preserving the heritage and history of the local area as a well known expert historian and preservationist; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Griffith has been honored and recognized by President Clinton and Governor Barnes and received national attention and awards for his contributions and dedication to gathering, recording, and reporting weather information from the National Weather Service, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the United States Department of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, L. Douglas Griffith has provided outstanding service to his community and the State of Georgia, and it is only fitting that the members of this body recognize this extraordinary individual.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize L. Douglas Griffith for his extraordinary contributions to his community and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to L. Douglas Griffith.
