A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Dr. Mark D. Wilson for being selected as the 2008 Principal of the Year by the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the citizens of Georgia support and appreciate the contributions of public school leaders who promote high student achievement; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Mark D. Wilson has provided outstanding leadership to the students and staff of Morgan County High School, in Madison, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Wilson has encouraged Morgan County High School students to pursue their dreams beyond high school, resulting in a dramatic improvement in the graduation rate of all students, especially minority students; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Wilson has led the expansion in the number of Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate Diploma program course offerings, resulting in 331 AP and IB exams taken in 2007; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Wilson has led the development of an innovative high school class schedule that allows students to personalize their educational program and provides a variety of academic programs; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Wilson has accomplished all this at a small, rural high school by sharing the governance and leadership of school improvement efforts with a committed, expert faculty; and

WHEREAS, Morgan County High School has been recognized as a National School of Change, A National Model School, and a Secondary Redesign School as a result of Dr. Wilson's leadership; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mark D. Wilson is an outstanding school leader which resulted in his selection as the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals' 2008 Principal of the Year.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join together to recognize Dr. Mark D. Wilson for his outstanding contributions to education and commend him for being selected as the 2008 Principal of the Year by the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Mark D. Wilson.
